Expertise DescriptionI have been a Registered Architect in the Midwestern states for more than 50 years and have had a private practice for the past 35 years. I have been the architect in charge of many large commercial, residential, and institutional projects, active in the design, construction documents, and construction administration phases’. These projects consisted of office buildings, shopping centers, commercial buildings, churches, and church additions, condominiums, apartments, and single family residential. I have over 10 years of expert witness experience with consultation, deposition, and courtroom testimony.
Areas of Expertise
Because of my experience in design and construction, I was retained as an expert witness for several personal injury, design, and construction errors cases. I was also retained to correct errors in which many were building code violations. I have worked a personal injury case which the plaintiff was permanently injured after falling down a stairway in a residence. I determined that the stairway was not installed according to the Building Code. Plaintiff was awarded a sizable about for the injury. Another personal injury case involved a woman assaulted at a hotel. The woman sued the hotel on the basis that the hallways were not lighted properly. I was consulted and determined the lighting was not according to the Building Code. The woman received compensation from the hotel. A construction defect case I worked on involved the deterioration of exterior walls on a recently constructed building. I was consulted to determine the cause as well as to design a new wall to eliminate the problem. I determined that there was no flashing (coping) at the top of the wall, allowing moisture to enter the back side of the wall. With my testimony, the architect was found liable and paid for the costs involved.
I have been a consultant for exterior work such as parking lots, landscaping, and renovations of existing buildings including historic renovations.
I have designed many handicap ramps and I am totally familiar with current Handicap Code requirements.
