ForensisGroup Barcode Expert Witnesses are involved with the design and with research on the codes found on most packaged products.
Barcode experts use the UPC-A code format with the GTIN (Global Trade Item Number), which is comprised of two parts—the UPC Company Prefix and the number that that is assigned to a unique product. A barcode is a graphical representation of a product’s identifying data formed by a two-dimensional pattern of black and white shapes. Barcodes can be read by optical devices, such as barcode readers and scanners. Barcodes are most commonly composed of parallel black and white lines and are applied to automate the transfer of product information, like the price, from the product to an electronic inventory system and cash registers.
Our barcode experts have degrees in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, and Physics. They design, develop, and maintain advanced software and firmware for barcode scanners. Some design and test retail barcode scanning and imaging systems. They research issues concerning barcodes, such as poor image quality, barcode placement on products, and flawed data quality. They look for solutions to excessive press gain, color combination issues, and problems with the reflective characteristics of metal or metalized substrates.
