Expertise DescriptionMechanical and electrical engineer experienced in: design and testing; friction, corrosion and stress analysis; accident investigation and reconstruction; material and component failure analysis; stress and vibration; materials characterization and testing; electrical fires cause and origin investigations; product liability, reliability, and patent review; as well as, slip and fall, lightning, and electrocution.
Areas of Expertise
- reviewer for programs covering the topics of Manufacturing and Machine Design
- provided support and guidance to the local student chapter of the American Society of Engineers
- organized and developed a session in Plasticity at the ASME's Second European joint conference on Engineerings Systems Design Analysis
- helped with organization of conference sessions, publications, and workshops
- assisted local high schools with engineering – related design projects and competitions that help promote the field of engineering
My professional experience includes Tenured Full-Professor of Mechanical Engineering, and Director of Materials Performance and Failure Analysis Laboratory.
I have worked on several grinder wheel failure cases in the past. Specifically, I have worked on injury cases involving grinder wheel failures on grinders without proper guarding.
I have been involved in a dozen or so cases involving assessment of traction characteristics and to VCT and other types of flooring tiles.
I have personally worked on a number of cases involving evaluation and characterization of damages caused by lightning strikes on materials, such as CSST (Corrugated Stainless Steel Tubing). To prove that there was a lightning strike at the Subject building, we would have to show either damage on the structure consistent with the electrical energy delivered by a typical lightning strike, or show damage to electronics within the building consistent with electrical power delivered by a lightning strike. I have both mechanical engineers (with materials/metallurgy specialization) and electrical engineers on my staff to assist in addressing the technical issues involved.
