Expertise DescriptionI have over 40 years of experience in gas turbine design and development that encompasses aviation, energy, marine and advanced military markets. I have developed turboshaft, turboprop and turbofan engines for a diverse application base that includes helicopters, fixed wing aircraft, auxiliary power units, stationary power generation, ships and super-sonic aircraft. I have successfully taken a broad range of commercial and military engine programs from initial concept through the certification process and into production, which included the maintenance and safety of operation for fielded engines. My flight safety responsibilities involved both conducting and overseeing accident investigations and engine failure analysis and support of ongoing litigation. I have authored and presented several professional papers on gas turbine design, hold multiple patents and am currently working on advanced propulsion system technologies targeting next generation manned and unmanned aircraft. I have spent more than 20 years providing consultations, deposition, and courtroom testimony as an aerospace engineering expert witness.
Areas of Expertise
My expert witness experience includes supporting various accident investigations conducted under the authority of; the NTSB in the United Stated, the Transportation Safety Board of Canada and the Air Accidents Investigation Branch in the United Kingdom. I have participated in numerous engine failure investigations and which involved engine teardowns with hardware inspection, conducting component analysis, preparing expert reports with findings and also the review and analysis of reports from other experts. I have provided deposition and trial testimony related to my findings in many of these investigations.
My consulting experience includes working on advanced propulsion systems with several aviation firms actively developing technologies to improve the reliability and efficiency of both engines and aircraft. These technologies encompass next generation engine design, engine cycle modification, and turbine based hybrid-electric propulsion systems for both commercial aviation applications and unmanned aerial vehicles.
My professional experience includes the design, certification, manufacture and maintenance of gas turbine engines for aviation, energy and marine applications. I have an extensive background in turbine technology development, engine certification with agencies such as the FAA and the continued airworthiness of engines in the field. I have written and presented several papers on gas turbine technology and hold multiple patents. As an expert in the area of gas turbine operation, certification, and maintenance practices, I have supported litigation associated with accident and engine failure investigations in the United States and in foreign countries.
