Agricultural Processing Expert 505525 KS

Expertise Description

I have more than 25 years experience in the field of Biological and Agricultural Engineering with expertise in product development of chemical application and control systems. I have experience with CAD design of mechanical and hydraulic systems, teaching and development of courses in the areas of Agricultural Processing and Mechanical Systems. I have supported integration of hydraulic, electric, and mechanical systems during prototype/production builds, as well as done packline audits for mitigation of fruit damage, and designed and prototyped mobile construction equipment utilizing horizontal directional drilling (HDD) technology.

Areas of Expertise

Relevant Experiences

I have worked in the post harvest chemical and equipment industry, along with many other agricultural material handling areas. I worked in several fruit packing houses across California, Oregon, Washington,
Texas, Florida, France and Italy, and corresponded with affiliates in Mexico and Chile. Much of the time I would provide equipment support and packline consulting after conducting audits of packline layout,
configuration and performance. I would look at things like mass flow rate, dump rates, chemical application rates, and mechanical fruit damage/attrition. I have worked with packlines for processing citrus, stone fruit (including cherries), apples and pears. I also have a network of people with who I would consult regarding the more biological factors such as decay, fruit quality, and phytotoxicity.

I have worked on equipment for handling winegrapes, processing tomatoes, pistachios, walnuts, almonds, flower seed, alfalfa, sudan, oat hay, pomegranates, gladiola flowers, among others that I can’t think of right now.

I currently teach an Agricultural Material course at a distinguished university where I evaluate a pilot scale fruit packline for citrus, avocado and kiwi.
