I have served as the expert in quite a few cases during my 16 years in this business. I have made measurements of light, sound, distance from source, exact source angles and heights as well as cases that involved the position and movement of cd person or persons involved at the time these sounds & lights emitted from their respective places at the time the subject would have first encountered the sound or light and how these sounds and/or lights would cause the subject to react and how the lights and sound profiles would change during the course of time over which the incident occurred.
I also have the equipment to conduct any exemplar testing needed.
If it might help for reference purposes, I completed a case dealing with all the above parameters for one of the Board of directors for the Florida Bar Association in which he also asked me to create a 3D Animation depicting the entire event. This Board member generally hires me as his engineering expert on the majority of the more complex cases that he accepts. He has been after me for years to set up a seminar about "Experts and the roles they play as experts in a case, as well as when not to use experts in a case. ". It just came up in conversation with him one day when he realized that there seamed to be a troubling lack of knowledge for even the most seasoned of attorneys on how and when to retain, not retain and most importantly exactly what to look for in an expert instead of choosing based solely on the letters after an expert's name.
I have probably worked on and testified in over 100 different stair slip, trip & fall cases over the past 20 years. In every case, I test and record the coefficient of friction for different types of shoes as well as the measurements and conditions of the stairs. Stairs are a very important part of any property and the details of how the stairs are constructed and the condition of the stairs at any point in time are meticulously defined in the building codes. This is specifically to eliminate any variance between any two sets of stairs which would cause a fall.
I have done horse, cow and deer accidents. 20 years at this and there are not many types of accidents that I haven't worked on and testified about in court.
