Expertise DescriptionI have more than 15 years experience in the field of Architecture with expertise in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, and Accessibility. I have experience with industrial buildings, earth retention, investigations on architectural evaluations of elevator failures; retaining wall failure building impact investigation; historic building fire damage renovation; new construction; office addition into existing metal building, wood, steal, and concrete; storage building addition to existing fire station, and architectural design, building evaluation, building assessment, production and management. I have over 10 years expert witness experience with consultations, deposition, and courtroom testimony.
Areas of Expertise
My expert witness experience includes residential structural failures – foundations and above grade framing (wood, masonry, steel, etc); as well as development site structural failures – stone framing and composite deck. I have additional experience in construction defects regarding accessibility to public areas and constructability.
My consulting experience includes construction monitoring and reviews, architectural design and documentation for commercial, industrial, entertainment, healthcare, and multi-family residential construction.
My professional experience includes being a Registered Architect.
Residential structures – both foundations and above grade framing – are areas of my expertise.
The residential structures I have designed are of a wide variety and size including those on expansive soil conditions. The design of these structures have included pier foundations, suspended foundations, slab-on-grade foundations, and numerous other. The above grade materials have included wood framing, masonry, concrete, steel, and many other.
As an architect, I perform basic landscape design (general layout design), but I have others in my firm perform the particulars, i.e. plant selection with my input. As well, I have designed MANY retaining walls, and layouts, in various areas of Texas both as an architect and an engineer. There are multiple facets of retaining wall sizing and layout, and they will flow from the image wanted, to the site soil parameters being resisted by the design.
I have many years specifying brick masonry and mortar both as an architect and an engineer, and have worked in all areas of each profession, i.e. design, specifications, documentation, construction administration.
Making me unique is the fact I can address both engineering (structural) and architectural issues, being both a Professional Engineer (Structural) and a Licensed Architect.
I have served as an expert witness on many cases as both an engineer and an architect for approximately fifteen years. These cases have ranged over a wide array of project types under both disciplines, and may times failures with circulation (i.e sidewalk construction/maintenance) have been one of the issues. Making me a little more unique is the fact I have served for both the Texas Board of Professional Engineers (TBPE) and the Texas Board of Architectural Examiners (TBAE) for cases specific to either profession. My experiences have included the design of residential and city pools as both an architect and a structural engineer. I have designed the placement use of elevators in buildings as both an architect and a structural engineer.
