Expertise DescriptionI have more than 30 years of experience in the field of Electrical Engineering with expertise in Assistive Technology. I have worked in wheelchair R&D, pressure ulcer prevention, and seat cushion and support surface R&D since 1987. My other activities and interests include exercise equipment, intellectual property, and personal injury law. I am also familiar with medical, biological, and orthopedics and rehabilitation engineering. I have over 15 years of expert witness experience with consultation, deposition, and courtroom testimony.
Areas of Expertise
I have a PhD in electrical engineering. I have been investigating, developing, and evaluating technology for mobility (wheelchairs) and tissue integrity management (seat cushions and mattresses) for the last 27 years. I am a Professor in the Department of Rehabilitation Science and Technology at a prominent university and Associate Dean for Research in the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.
The scope of my work ranges from technology development in the seating and mobility, to investigations on the physiological responses to mechanical and heat loading, to clinical effectiveness research in the form of large-scale RCTs. I am the inventor on seven patents related to technology for people with disabilities. I am a mattress design expert.
