I have more than 35 years experience in the field of Mechanical Engineering with expertise in high-technology applications. I have experience with medical device/biotech product development & concept design, patent and intellectual property research and due diligence, biomaterials applications, portable devices, keypads, robust design, reliability and durability, and manufacturing technology. I have additional experience with reliability and failure analysis services, composite materials, and wind and alternative energy applications. I have over 25 years expert witness experience with consultations, deposition, and courtroom testimony.

Professional Experiences

My professional experience includes over 30 years of professional multi-disciplinary consulting experience, teaching both graduate and undergraduate University classes, and many short-duration workshops and seminars. I have also worked in industry. My industrial positions have included such sectors as software, hardware, medical devices, and telecommunications equipment. l also have extensive experience in electromechanical devices, patents, medical devices, Nitinol shape memory alloys, mechanical failure of products or equipment, material failure by fracture or fatigue, and nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA).

Relevant Experiences

I am a Stanford PhD and MSME in Mechanical Engineering and also a Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer in California. I am an ASME Fellow and an IEEE Senior Member. I have over 30 years of consulting experience including design, regulatory, and failure/reliability issues of a variety of consumer products, medical devices, and industrial equipment covering a wide range of equipment and systems.

I have testified in both trial and depositions for patent cases and other types litigation. I have authored numerous expert reports and recently assisted in an IPR by filing 2 separate Declarations and recently testified in a patent trial (Sep.2016).
I have testified in both Trial and Deposition, and has authored numerous Expert reports.

In terms of specific Wind Turbine related experience:
I have project experience relating to several aspects of wind power and the wind turbine equipment industry. I have researched and taught a course on Mechanical Design for Reliability (MDfR) where wind turbine systems make up an important module. The specific focus has been on the gearbox, the generator, and the composite blades. I have also been involved with mechanical simulation of both components and systems for wind turbines. I have deep experience in composite materials, and design/fabrication of large composite components such as wind turbine blades and also of support structures. Important and competing factors include durability and fatigue resistance, weight, stiffness, and design robustness (to impact, bird strike, wind damage, etc.). I have strong experience in reliability and failure analysis across a range of industries with system level applications.

I am well-versed in fluid mechanics and fluid flow over many consulting projects, graduate course work at Stanford, and by virtue of being a Professional Mechanical Engineer (PE License). Open channel flow (e.g., gutter flow) and pipe flow are both typical issues encountered in practice for experienced Mechanical Engineers.

In terms of sheet-metal forming and gutter-guard related experience:
I have direct personal knowledge and experience with gutters, gutter guards, and similar home-improvement products and has personally installed devices of this type. I have performed extensive finite element simulations of sheet-metal forming, forging, and other bulk-forming processes that are employed to manufacture these components.

I taught full-time in the Mechanical Engineering Department at a University for two years and taught courses on Materials, Manufacturing, and Mechanical Design. I am a member of ASM International and SAE.
