I am an Attorney at Law, licensed in California since 1978 and licensed in Georgia since 2007. I hold 39 years of experience in my field. I am an insurance coverage lawyer, representing policyholders, although for the first 17 years of my career, I represented insurance companies. My practice almost exclusively involves insurance coverage disputes in both first party and third-party claims property and liability claims. I have previously qualified and have testified as an insurance coverage expert. Also, I am frequently retained as a consulting insurance coverage expert on matters both insureds and insurers.
In addition to my full-time insurance coverage practice, I am a professor at a prestigious University in Georgia. I have served as an Adjunct Professor of Insurance Law in both California and Georgia since 1995. I have taught Insurance Law in law schools no fewer than in 28 separate semesters. My professional career has exclusively been as a lawyer, as I have not worked for an insurance company previously, whether in claims or underwriting, but as stated, I represented property and liability Insurers in the 1980’s and 1990’s, and teach the subject matter in my law school classes, including covering Commercial General Liability policies and professional liability insurance.
I am a solo practitioner. The specialty of my law practice is insurance coverage and litigation for policyholders. A copy of my current C.V. is attached, which will again be updated after December 6, 2018 after I complete my speaking assignment for a National Business Institute Seminar entitled “Insurance Coverage Litigation: Secrets Insurance Companies Don’t Want Attorneys to Know.”
I was licensed as a life and health insurance agent in California from 1994 but elected to surrender my license this year and thus, am no longer active. In my career, I have previously handled disability claims, although my insurance law practice primarily concerns property and liability insurance claims. I have handled bad faith cases both in California and Georgia. I have previously been retained as an expert in a California disability case involving bad faith, testifying in deposition, but the case resolved prior to trial. I have previously qualified and have testified in both the United States District Court for the Central District of California and in California Superior Courts in both Los Angeles and Riverside Counties on issues of bad faith for both plaintiffs and defendants.
I currently reside and work in Georgia but return to California (for mostly social reasons) about twice a year. I am teaching Insurance Law at Georgia State University College of Law this Fall Semester, and am scheduled to teach the course in the Spring at Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School. In my course, one of the classes is devoted to the teaching of the principles of disability insurance.
