My 40 years of construction experience include 17 years of union construction and 23 years of open-shop construction. Over a twenty-year period, I was in charge of the occupational health & safety management system of a specialty contractor; my responsibilities during that time period included creation, implementation, operation, monitoring, and evaluation of safety programs and policies, plus tracking and investigation of construction accidents, including crane accidents, fatalities, injuries, and property damage.
My expert specialties include occupational health & safety management systems, standards of care, wrongful death, personal injury, negligence, construction, safety, fall protection, high-rise construction, OSHA matters, and steel erection. Our steel erection work included the use of cranes and heavy rigging on almost a daily basis. During my tenure, my company erected 21 buildings of from 35 to 75 stories in height including much of the skyline of downtown Houston, Texas and other high-rise buildings in New Orleans, Louisiana, Atlanta, Georgia, and Miami, Florida, so I am familiar with crane operations in highly constrained, “downtown” locations.
Relative to standards of care, I have served on several national and local committees, including consensus standards committees. I have also observed the policies, programs, procedures, standard practices, and best practices of more than 80 general contractors. My project management and oversight has included new construction, maintenance, renovation, and demolition work.
As an expert in OSHA matters, I teach the OSHA class through a university and have taught several classes covering 1926 Subpart CC – Cranes & Derricks in Construction through the Associated General Contractors of America. I’ve taught in-house classes covering crane and rigging safety.
