Expertise DescriptionI have more than 38 years of experience working with developmentally disabled children and adults in a community residential setting. I have worked in small and large facilities for the intellectually disabled and developmentally disabled in non-profit and public sectors. I established group homes in Ohio, Arizona, Virginia, Kentucky as well as West Virginia. My experience also included working with multi-handicapped residents with autism, accidental death, severe seizure disorders, cerebral palsy and psychiatric disorders often requiring behavior intervention and psychotropic medication. I have extensive experience in relation to Standard of Care issues in group homes, knowledge of State Licensure and regulation guidelines and several cases pertaining to wrongful death and personal injury. I have prior expert witness experience with consultation, deposition, and courtroom testimony.
Areas of Expertise
My expert witness experience includes personal injury cases involving poorly managed seizure disorder; wrongful death, two residents falling and striking head, and one resident receiving very poor direct care and poor nursing care with failure to secure medical care; assisting insurance company in deciding to settle or continue case; and assisting attorneys in decision to file suit or drop case.
My professional experience includes Director of small and large facilities for both intellectually disabled children and adults in non-profit and public sectors. I have been a Court Appointed Special Advocate for abused and neglected children.
I have experience with three previous and on-going cases involving inappropriate and illegal sexual conduct in group homes and day developmental centers. I have worked on a case concerning a bus driver for an agency servicing the developmentally disabled, who took sexual advantage of one of his disabled riders.
