Expertise DescriptionI have more than 25 years experience in the field of Electrical Engineering with expertise in electronic discovery, and technical expert engagements in copyright and patent cases. I specialize in data format conversion, magnetic tape forensics, source code review, analog and digital circuit design, embedded devices and firmware, audio codecs and voice recording, magnetic tape, legacy hardware, Ecommerce, online credit card transactions. I have over 5 years expert witness experience.
Areas of Expertise
I have experience in IC design and testing. My masters and Ph.D. degrees involved custom IC design and packaging. I also have extensive experience with physical design of electronic hardware, including IC packaging, board layout, case design, and test fixture design.
I have 29 years experience as an electrical engineer.
I have extensive experience writing software in many languages. I have developed large projects in C, Java, and Perl.
My background is in analog electronics, including a Ph.D. in analog circuit design from an Ivy League university, and industry experience at major technology companies. I also hold two patents and have authored several journal articles in analog electronics. I have designed circuits in the past with delays and adders.
I have extensive knowledge of the NTSC video standard and the concepts of field de-interlacing, frame rate, and interpolation. I understand the shortcomings of NTSC as it relates to conversion to digital for display on a modern computer monitor or modern digital television.
I have a lot of experience doing forensic analysis of failed electronic devices and software. In addition, I have worked extensively in e-commerce relating to credit card authorizations and payments. I have had my own engineering consulting firm since 2001.
I have worked at several large corporations and startup companies doing board-level and chip-level design.
I have a Ph.D. in electrical engineering and have worked extensively on data recovery from disks (including magnetic, optical, solid state) and tape over the past 17 years, including Windows, Mac, VMS, UNIX, and Linux media. I do not currently have any formal certifications in data recovery (other than the advanced engineering degree).
