Expertise DescriptionI have more than 40 years experience in the fields of Environmental Engineering and Forensic Science with expertise in environmental due diligence, site assessment and site characterization. I have experience with contamination assessment, air emissions, oil and gas field legacy site assessment, multi-media environmental sampling and analysis (ambient air, household dust, water and wastewater, soil, sediment, and groundwater), chemical fingerprinting, fate and transport analysis, exposure and risk assessments, health and safety, risk analysis, remediation and restoration of contaminated properties, environmental restoration, and engineering cost estimates. Primary chemicals of concern have included petroleum hydrocarbons, toxic metals, radionuclides, Dioxins, PCBs, arsenic, carbon black, particulate matter, pesticides and herbicides, creosote and wood preservatives, biological pathogens, and conventional pollutants. I have over 15 years expert witness experience with consultations, deposition, and courtroom testimony.
Areas of Expertise
My expert witness experience includes engineering cost estimate for remediation and restoration of refinery property and productive wetlands; engineering cost estimates for remediation and restoration of oil and gas field legacy sites; engineering cost estimate to remediate and restore residences and commercial buildings impacted by airborne toxic dust; testing Dioxins/Furans in various environmental media, including fate and transport; determination of the natural and extent of contamination at creosote and wood preserving sites; household attic dust testing at multiple sites; soil and groundwater testing at multiple sites; soil, groundwater, surface water, and biota sampling following large oil spill; impacts of the release of chlorinated solvents to soil and groundwater; impact of soil gas contamination and soil vapor intrusion at a high school; and contamination of rice fields and crawfish farms from pesticides.
My consulting experience includes Phase I environmental due diligence assessments; Phase II and III environmental site assessments; site selection and site evaluation studies; regulatory compliance audits; regulatory liaison and permitting support; licensing support for grassroot projects; environmental impact assessments; multi-media environmental sampling and analysis (soil, sediment, surface water, groundwater, sludge, ambient air, indoor air quality, indoor dust, ecosystems); conceptual design and modeling; engineering feasibility studies; pollution prevention and waste minimization studies; engineering cost estimates; decontamination studies; soil and groundwater remediation and restoration of contaminated sites; health-based exposure and risk assessments; and water and wastewater treatment.
My professional experience includes being the President and Principal Engineer of an Environmental division, with prior experience as a Regional Manager for an Environmental Engineering company, Environmental Program Manager, Project Director, Manager of Business Development, Project Manager and Practice Leader, Senior Engineer and Project Manager, and Staff Engineer and Project Coordinator.
have experience in wastewater treatment systems, including the use of UV light. I have authored a chapter on water/wastewater treatment that includes the use of UV light as a possible treatment step.
