Expertise DescriptionI have more than 35 years of experience in the fields of Design and Ergonomics with expertise as a Product Designer. I have developed successful products and electronic interfaces in a variety of categories for companies worldwide, ranging from the automotive industry to consumer and medical products. My work in design and ergonomics has led to a number of innovations, not just in the products produced, but also in the methods by which design is approached. I hold more than 50 patents in a variety of product categories. I have over 20 years of expert witness experience.
Areas of Expertise
I have been a design consultant for more than 35 years. I hold an undergraduate degree in Industrial Design and a Masters and Ph.D. in Ergonomics and Biomechanics. With that background I have developed products that range from kitchen tools (design to be used by a wide range of consumers) to surgical equipment, consumer electronics – as a consultant working with many companies, a wide range of products. Many of these projects require a thorough understanding of the mechanics of the hand, to both improve performance and to prevent injury. My Ph.D. dissertation focused on automobiles, the reach capabilities of younger and older drivers. In addition to my consulting work I also lecture frequently, and run classes and workshops on ergonomics and biomechanics for students and for professionals.
I have been designing products since 1977. This includes designing and developing brand appearances, brand personalities and "design languages,” from startups to major international corporations. This work has resulted in numerous design and utility patents. I also speak and conduct workshops frequently, worldwide, on the topic of design and brands.
Because of my background in ergonomics I often am called on to design products for people with various physical challenges, as well as for older consumers.
