Expertise Description

I have more than 45 years of continuous experience in the automotive industry. I have worked for a car manufacturer, an electronic systems and device supplier, and have consulted for the last fifteen years as an independent automotive electronics consultant working with automotive electronics suppliers of many types. I have worked in the industry areas of R&D, applied engineering, development, product engineering, manufacturing engineering, product line management, and business line direction. My entire career has been focused on the development and design of components, subsystems, and systems for use in the automotive industry. I began doing a small amount of expert witness work in 2005, but most of my expert work has taken place since 2013. I have worked on seventeen expert cases, all dealing with automotive technology. Most of these cases have involved work for the defendant, but we have also worked for the plaintiff on some cases. I have spent over 10 years as an automotive engineer expert witness and have experience in drafting declarations, reports, doing prior art investigations, deposition, and court testimony. We have worked on IPRs, District Court cases, and class action filings. While a majority of our cases involve only one client and law firm, we do have experience working with multiple (two to four) clients and their individual law firms on a single case.

Expertise Description

I have 35 years of experience working in the field of nautical charts and US Coast Pilots. Nautical charts are considered to be legal documents in a court of law. The status that is afforded to these products is supported by the methodology at which these data are gathered, processed, and applied. The components of charts and Coast Pilots are separately gathered by field personnel, processed, and submitted for application to charts, Coast Pilots, or both. Components of charts include water depths from hydrographic surveys, the shoreline of adjacent land, prominent topographic features, aids to navigation, and other navigational information including geographic names. Coast Pilots include geographic names and chart numbers, channel descriptions, anchorages, bridge and cable clearances, currents, tide and water levels, prominent features, pilotage, towage, weather, ice conditions, wharf descriptions, dangers, routes, traffic separation schemes, small-craft facilities, and Federal regulations applicable to navigation. Nautical charts and US Coast Pilots are skillfully reviewed to ensure high accuracy standards before publication and release to the public. My experience includes a strong understanding of how data are gathered and processed in the field and latter compiled and applied to both products. This experience includes Operation Officer for gathering hydrographic surveys, three sea assignments aboard Oceanographic Ships using nautical charts and US Coast Pilots, and many assignments that lead to their final outcome as legal documents.
