Expertise DescriptionI have over 10 years experience in the fields of Medical Toxicology, Family Medicine, General Preventive Medicine, and Public Health. I have further expertise in Occupational and Environmental Medicine, environmental exposure, the effect of toxic substances and diseases, and such exposures in the pediatric populations. My experience includes basic epidemiology, also in relation to lead, poison control, evaluation and treatment of people of all ages, including pregnant women and their children. I have more than 10 years expert witness experience with consultations, deposition, and courtroom testimony.
Areas of Expertise
I’m board certified in Medical Toxicology, Family Medicine, General Preventive Medicine and Public Health. I evaluate and treat people of all ages, including pregnant women and their children. I have a strong foundation in basic epidemiology.
Occupational exposure and causation analysis fall within my area of expertise. I have provided several causation analyses for the California Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) as a Qualified Medical Evaluator (QME) in the subspecialty of Medical Toxicology.
I can comment on field sobriety, my expertise is in human intoxication/poisoning, clinical effects and interpreting results of laboratory tests.
I completed my Family Medicine Residency at a prestigious university, and now I’m full-time faculty at a university. There, I am an Assistant Clinical Professor in the Departments of Medicine and Family Medicine. I have worked as an Emergency Physician and Hospitalist in community hospitals and regularly teach on the Family Medicine Inpatient Service at San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center. I serve as an expert consultant for the Medical Board of California for standard of care matters for Family Medicine Physicians.
I hold Master’s Degrees in Public Health and Business Administration. I am an assistant clinical professor of Medicine at UCSF and the medical director for the Occupational Health Service at San Francisco General Hospital. I am an assistant medical director for the California Poison Control System.
As a Preventive Medicine Physician, I am an expert in Public Health. I possess core competencies in biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental and occupational medicine, planning and evaluation of health services, management of health care organizations, research into causes of disease and injury in population groups, and the practice of prevention in clinical medicine.
I have 21 years of service in the Army Reserve, with deployments to Afghanistan and Kuwait. I started as a junior enlisted soldier and have progressed to a field grade officer.
I am very familiar with opioid use, abuse, and dependence, as well as the use of opioids in the safety sensitive positions. I am a certified Medical Review Officer, I have consulted for the Department of Defense, Department of Energy and the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency on the use of opiates in safety sensitive positions.
I currently have two cases in Mississippi involving toxicology. I would be happy to consult on this case.
