Expertise Description

I have been working for over 40 years as a Forensic Fire/Explosion Investigator with an expertise in carbon monoxide incident investigation, fire origin and cause analysis, fire protection engineering, fire suppression systems, building code analysis, fire modeling, fire dynamics, gas industry engineering, experimental fire/explosion research, industrial/process hazard assessment, and engineering analysis. I have been regularly involved in origin/cause fire/explosion investigations, fire reconstructions, smoke detector failure investigations, sprinkler system failures, restaurant suppression system failures, building code issues, etc. As a gas engineer, together with my fire forensic experience, I have been regularly involved in the analysis of gas fires and explosions. I have also worked for more than 25 years as a fire investigation expert witness in Illinois and have provided numerous clients with consultations, deposition, and courtroom testimony.

Consulting Experience

My consulting experience includes sprinkler system design, water supply hydraulics, fire alarm system design, explosion prevention/mitigation, building code analysis, hazards analysis of products and processes, fire prevention, as well as a number of fire/explosion research projects.

As owner and principal engineer of a forensic engineering company, I am responsible for all forensic engineering projects conducted.

Relevant Experiences

I am a fire protection engineer and gas engineer, and I am well aware of the requirements for both the kitchen suppression system and the gas system. I am currently working on about four cases where the kitchen fire suppression system is at issue. I am also working on several gas explosion cases at this time.
