Expertise DescriptionAs a fire protection engineer, I have worked as a lead design engineer for fire protection systems in all types of buildings for over 20 years. My experience in the corrosion field began in 1994 when I served as a forensic investigator for the Department of Defense in the evaluation of metallic component failures. My experience also includes expert witness support, project management, performance based design, code consulting, fire failure analysis, hazard analysis, and complete design of fire protection systems. I have worked as the founder and president of a fire protection engineering company. I have also been an instructor of fire protection engineering at a college extension program and have been a community college professor. I am a prolific public speaker and have been invited to numerous national conventions to provide insights into fire protection engineering. I have provided clients with consultations and deposition for more than 15 years as a fire protection engineering expert witness.
Areas of Expertise
My expert witness experience includes cases that involve: building code application, fire protection system design analysis, fire propagation, fire cause and origin, forensic investigation of fire sprinkler system and fire alarm system failure, fatality cause, and determination of level of responsibility for parties involved. Due to my education and professional experience I pay particular attention to detail and am dead-line oriented.
My consulting experience includes consulting and design for public and private sectors of small and large scale fire protection projects. I have been responsible for the complete design of fire protection and mechanical systems, including contract drawings and specifications as well as project coordination, administration, construction management and cost estimating. I have conducted risk evaluations of various building features involving building code application, fire modeling, identification and resolution of hazardous conditions.
My professional experience includes over 20 years of engineering consulting and teaching. I specialize in development of risk mitigation techniques and life safety systems specific to building design. I have conducted studies analyzing the protection of the facility property, the protection of occupants, and the redundancies necessary to provide a continuity of business function in the case of a fire emergency. Because of my experience I have been asked to provide seminars at national conferences, such as National Fire Protection Association, American Fire Sprinkler Association, and Society of Fire Protection Engineers.
