Expertise DescriptionI have over 40 years experience in fire protection engineering, specializing in combustion science, fire modeling, fire protection engineering, fire research, heat transfer, optical properties of surfaces, and thermal physics. My experience includes matters pertaining to combustion and explosions; thermal radiation; foam, gas phase, and powder fire extinguishers; smoke detectors; private and commercial aircraft fires, vehicle fires and watercraft fires; residential building fires; commercial building fires; industrial building fires; rural, suburban, and urban fire hazards; and fire performance and spread in electrical cable arrays. I have more than 35 years expert witness experience with consultations, deposition, and courtroom testimony.
Areas of Expertise
My consulting experience includes: Measuring the rate of delivery, intensity and spectral distribution of thermal radiation from nuclear weapons; Researching into the response of solid phase materials exposed to thermal radiation; Researching into efficiency, stability, and chemical properties of foam fire extinguishers; Researching into the effectiveness of gas phase and powder fire extinguishing agents; Studying fire characteristics of full scale building fire; Developing engineering countermeasures for smoke exposure to HEPA filters; Fire test development and analysis; Fire hazards analysis for LLNL; DOE and NRC facilities; Fire tests and analysis for ventilation enclosures; Fire spread characterization of electrical cables; Fire science applications; Analysis of commercial and private aircraft fires; Analysis of chemical and petrochemical fires and explosions.
