Professional Experiences

My professional experience includes working as a forensic pathologist and Assistant Medical Examiner at a County Medical Examiner’s Office in Chicago, which is one of the largest and busiest Medical Examiner’s Offices in the United States. I have served as the Director of Research and the Cardiovascular Pathology Consultant for the office (a staff of approximately 15 forensic pathologists) in addition to maintaining a regular forensic caseload. To date, I have performed approximately 2000 postmortem examinations (approximately 1100 are full autopsies and 900 are external examinations).

Relevant Experiences

I was trained at Tulane and LSU. Currently, I am an Assistant Medical Examiner in a major Midwestern city, which is one of the largest and busiest offices in the world. In addition to my regular cases, I also serve as the Cardiovascular Pathology Consultant for the office (examining difficult hearts for other pathologists), teach forensic pathology trainees (fellows), and hold academic appointments at two major univeristies.

I have performed over 2,500 postmortem examinations and have testified in over 30 trials and 20 depositions (including private case consultations). Approximately 30-35% of my cases have involved drug-related deaths (many involving cocaine), so I have a great deal of experience in investigating cocaine-related deaths, as well as interpreting signs of asphyxia.

I am a forensic pathologist, board-certified in Anatomic and Forensic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology and am an Assistant Medical Examiner at the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office in Chicago, which is one of the largest and busiest Medical Examiner's Offices in the United States. In addition to my regular caseload, I also serve as the Cardiovascular Pathology Consultant for the office and have conducted over 400 cardiac pathology consultations for other pathologists in our office. I train our Forensic Pathology Fellows in cardiac and forensic pathology and I teach Pathology residents and medical students. I have academic appointments at Rush University and Northwestern University, where I serve as a staff attending pathologist two days each month on the hospital autopsy service. I have conducted over 2500 postmortem examinations and have a great deal of experience testifying in court and in depositions.
