Expertise DescriptionI have more than 35 years of geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, and construction experience. I possess extensive practical experience in the investigation and management of waste piles, landfills and lined liquid and solid waste containment ponds. I am an expert in land subsidence mitigation due to groundwater withdrawal, soil stabilization with lime, cement and fly ash, and with ground strength improvement, including the construction and monitoring of major engineered fills, and mitigation of expansive and collapsible soils. I have designed several stream-bank stabilization projects, segmental-block retaining walls, geogrid-reinforced soil, and foundation underpinning and shoring systems, including tiebacks, soil nails, rock bolts and seismic tiedowns. I have over 15 years of expert witness experience with consultation, deposition, and courtroom testimony.
Areas of Expertise
I have over 40 years of professional experience with Civil and Geotechnical Engineering. This includes both design and construction phases, as well as forensic investigations, mitigation and standard-of-care expert witness testimony.
I have been the responsible Geotechnical Engineer with several dozen custom homes design and construction in California, including the $4 million reconstruction of a custom home on an 8-acre property completed in 2016; a half-million dollar swimming pool at a equestrian and hillside residential property completed in 2015; a $1.8m custom residence engineering reconstruction and mitigation due to a neighbor-caused landslide; geotechnical engineering for a $2.4m custom residence, and many other examples involving custom residential construction on hillsides with complex geologic constraints throughout California and other states.
