I am a mechanical engineer with more than 25 years experience as a gas turbine, aviation and marine engine expert at every major world-wide OEM in the gas turbine engine industry. I am experienced with flight, marine, automotive and industrial engine and have worked as a US Navy Engineering Duty Officer. I am also the holder of six (6) patents in gas turbine engine design. I have experience with military engine qualification, commercial engine certification and FAA CFR regulations. I have significant experience with mechanical component design, testing and forensic investigation of component failure. I have worked with field investigations and warranty claims. I have been the lead investigator on claims from foreign navies and have conducted on-site investigations. I have also worked with laparoscopic and ultrasonic medical device design, testing and FDA 510k approval at a world-leading OEM. I have been the team leader for an ultrasonic laparoscopic device launch for leading Fortune 500 company. I have conducted pre-clinical and field hospital trials and have supported successful component testing at CSA labs. I have opined in gas turbine and automotive personal injury cases. Expert Witness

My expert witness experience includes:

· June 2017: Failure of automotive liftgate causing personal injury to client (plaintiff). Provided test results, field inspections and engineering analysis to support claims against major automotive OEM defendant. Incorporated significant discovery material to support plaintiff’s claims and met aggressive turnaround time from client counsel. Client: Plaintiff

· June 2015: Failure of gas turbine component in high-pressure turbine (HPT) of shipboard engine with a foreign navy. Presided over team that overhauled the engine (under customer witness) in Europe, developed field investigation plan, developed lab evaluation plan of selected hardware, identified root cause of failure and prepared and submitted final report to Customer which identified root cause of failure. Client: Defense

· October 2014: Failure of shipboard propulsion shafting under operation with foreign navy. Shaft failure resulted in loss of propulsion and subsequent shipboard fire. Lead the investigation to review shipboard operations, analysis of returned hardware, laboratory investigation and subsequent engineering analysis which identified root cause of failure as a fuel leak, which resulted in loss of the shafting due to excessive heat exposure. Final report helped close the investigation promptly. Client: Defense

· August 2010: Provided on-site investigation and support at CSA Labs, Toronto, Ontario, CA in order to achieve compliance with IEC standard for a laparoscopic medical device. Investigation resulted in improvements in test method, test report and subsequent approval of the medical device. Client: Defense

· August 2006: Designed, manufactured and assembled a unique half-symmetry wind tunnel model for icing wind tunnel testing with a major aircraft OEM in Texas. Final report was submitted to the aircraft OEM and subsequent final testing in Italy successfully demonstrated performance of the proposed anti-icing system. Client: Gas turbine OEM

I have covered numerous field and failure/ investigations for OEM manufacturers of gas turbine engines, medical devices, and automotive cases. I have led the following programs: customer failure/failure investigations, manufacturing/process improvement, engine certification/qualification through FAA, medical device 510(k) approval through FDA, compliance testing of medical devices at independent labs for 501(k) approval, gas turbine engine testing, pre-clinical animate medical device testing, field Q&A with surgeons on device usage, new engine design/development, new medical device technology development, IP generation and patent approval, and automotive personal injury/product liability.

Relevant Experiences

My experience encompasses a total of 28 years of mechanical engineering, 24 years dedicated to air, marine and land-based gas turbine design and systems. I have performed and assisted in failure investigations of gas turbine components in all 3 applications for commercial, industrial and military customers.  I have experience with forensic investigation, TOPS8D (root cause analysis), and failure modes of most gas turbine engine components.
 
A couple of sample investigations I have led are below:

My 28 years of engineering experience includes mechanical design, manufacturing, failure analysis/forensic investigations and product qualification/certification by FAA, FDA and independent labs e.g. CSA. My product experience spans gas turbines, medical devices and naval/marine equipment. I have BSME/MSME degrees and hold 6 patents and have instructed other PEs in a 6.5hr CE course in mechanical vibrations and failure analysis.
