Expertise Description

For more than 20 years, I have worked in the field of Neurotoxicology and Behavioral Neuroscience with a particular focus in diagnosing neurotoxic effects in humans using clinical neurological, neurophysiological, neuroradiological, and neuropsychological measures of nervous system function. I have also spent time specifically looking at the interactions between neurotoxicants and age at onset of Parkinson's diseases in humans. I have additional experience in how drugs and neurotoxicants modify human behavior and the progression of neurodegenerative disease. I am a diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology. I have also spent over 15 years as a neurotoxicology expert witness in Massachusetts by providing clients with courtroom testimony, consultations, and deposition.

Expert Witness

I have served as an expert witness on numerous toxic tort cases. My opinions on the relationship between occupational exposure to neurotoxicants and age at onset of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) resulted in a landmark Daubert Decision

Consulting Experience

My consulting experience includes being the sole author of a white paper written at the request of the Ontario, Canada Workplace Safety and Insurance Board on the relationship between occupational exposures to neurotoxicants and the age at onset of Parkinson’s disease.

Professional Experiences

My training has provided me with genuine translational research experience in clinical and basic neuroscience, enabling me to effectively evaluate how chemicals can alter neurological function and modify the progression of neurodegenerative diseases in humans and animals. My research has resulted in several important peer reviewed publications related to the relationship between occupational and environmental exposure to chemicals and the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative disease. My current research is focused on using cutting edge in vivo electrophysiological techniques to study chemical-induced changes in neuronal function with an effort toward identifying novel therapeutics for treating the effects of neurotoxicant exposure and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease.

Relevant Experiences

I have expertise in neurotoxicology, pharmacology and human behavioral neuroscience. I also teach forensic toxicology.

I am a highly regarded expert in this area. I have consulted with the Canadian workplace Safety and Insurance Board of Ontario Canada about this topic and actually wrote the white paper that they use for their claims. I have written a book chapter on this topic. I continue to publish in this area and am highly regarded by my peers as an expert in this area as reflected in my service as a reviewer for high impact journals such as Neurology.
