Expertise DescriptionI have over 40 years electrical engineer specializing in architectural acoustics and noise control. My expertise includes: acoustic measurement methods / devices; archaeological acoustics; automotive acoustics; battlefield sensors; classroom acoustics; sonar; sound propagation; and sound quality. I have prior expert witness experience.
Areas of Expertise
My expert witness experience includes: Investigate noise transmission between attached dwellings & acoustical design defects by on-site testing in accordance with state & local building codes; Recommend noise mitigation for buildings, neighborhoods, & products; Investigate sound / noise – related issues in accidents, e.g., transportation related; Give testimony at depositions & trials.
My consulting experience includes: Determine building acoustic properties (e.g., sound transmission & floor impact noise); Field measurement of outdoor / indoor noise (e.g., road traffic & plumbing); Gunshot analysis, speech intelligibility, neighborhood noise issues; School acoustics for hearing impaired (IEPs); Improve classroom acoustics.
I am a seasoned and credentialed acoustical consultant with deposition and trial experience. I have many years of experience in Forensic Acoustics, and have made fundamental contributions to current noise measurement standards for vehicle and building noise.
I am a professional Noise Control Engineer. I am a nationally certified acoustical consultant with 54 years of experience. Some of my papers are cited in handbooks and learned references in the fields of architectural acoustics and noise. I have made fundamental contributions to the science and practice of sound power measurements.
I am also a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America and recipient of their Helmholtz-Rayleigh Silver Medal for research accomplishments in noise, architectural acoustics, and standardization. I am also a Fellow of the Institute of Noise Control Engineering.
For noise testing, I am equipped with top-of-the-line precision sound analyzers and microphones. These analyzers and microphones are annually calibrated by a third party laboratory credentialed by the National Volunteer Laboratory Accreditation Program (NAVLAP) third party laboratory and traceable to the National Institute for Science and Technology (formerly the National Bureau of Standards).
