Expertise DescriptionI have more than 20 years experience in the field of Pediatric Endocrinology as a physician with clinical expertise in diabetes mellitus, disorders of hypoglycemia, thyroid disorders, and disorders of growth. I have published over 125 peer-reviewed research articles and chapters on various topics within my field and also provided instruction as a full professor with tenure. I have also spent over 5 years as pediatric endocrinology expert witness with consultations and deposition. I have over 10 years of service as a military physician with two combat service deployments.
Areas of Expertise
My expert witness experience includes consultation for plaintiffs and defendants in cases alleging standard of care violations. I have provided testimony via affidavit and deposition in preparation for trial.
My consulting experience includes peer review of research grants for major sponsors, peer review of appeals related to utilization of endocrine services and technology, served as expert witness for litigation, and independent opinions on general healthcare topics. I have served as Special Consultant to the Texas Medical Board. I have served as an editor for several professional organizations.
My professional experience includes over 16 years of service on the full-time faculty of major U.S. medical schools, more than 6 years of service as director of a fellowship training program in pediatric endocrinology, and more than 5 years of service as chief for the division of pediatric endocrinology in a major U.S. medical school. I have served as principal investigator or co-investigator on dozens of preclinical and clinical studies (Phases I-IV). I have served as primary mentor for 25 pre-doctoral trainees, 14 post- doctoral trainees, and 6 assistant professors.
