Areas of Expertise
I was instrumental in the design of adapted starting and mobility equipment that is commercially available from Rifton and used by children and adults with significant physical disabilities worldwide. I served as a technical consultant on equipment needs during my work as a MOVE (Mobility Opportunities Via Education) International Trainer and on the board of directors of the MOVE International Foundation. MOVE International is a nonprofit organization that seeks to improve the overall quality of life for people with disabilities (regardless of age or cause of disability). I have also consulted on multiple school, building, and playground renovation projects to better serve individuals with disabilities and their caregivers. In collaboration with faculty at University of West Florida, I consulted and provided information on lifting and other manual handling tasks for large children and adults requiring physical assistance use to develop an adult version of the MOVE curriculum.
Prior to a career change to become a physical therapist, I had twelve years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry including working as a biochemist studying the metabolic fate of radio-labeled xenobiotics, in parenteral products process validation, and in clinical research administration.
As physical therapist, I have over 20 years of experience in a number of clinical settings including serving as a clinical director in nursing homes, hospitals, and home health. I have worked extensively in public school settings, providing physical therapy as a related service to students with disabilities. In this capacity I have served as a MOVE (mobility opportunities via education) International Trainer and board member for the MOVE International Foundation where I helped develop and spread the MOVE curriculum to help teach functional mobility skills to children and adults with serve disabilities worldwide.
