As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who is also a Certified School Psychologist, I have conducted hundreds of evaluations of children who have been or claimed they had been sexually abuse. I have also treated scores of such patients over my nearly 40 year career as a psychologist. Having completed a 1 year post doctoral fellowship on evaluating and treating sex offenders, I have treated and evaluated hundreds of people accused and/or convicted of sex offenses.
I have also evaluated and treated hundreds of combat veterans suffering from or claiming to be suffering from PTSD under a contract with the Veteran’s Administration and as private patients under their insurance, pro bono, or on a fee for service basis. As an aside, I am a veteran myself, having served during the Vietnam era including flying missions in southeast Asia during Vietnam and in the Mediterranean Sea during the Arab-Israeli war of 1967.
In my forensic practice, I have also evaluated a number of defendants with regard to possible vulnerability vis a vis coerced confessions and have testified a few times in such matters.
As a Licensed Clinical Psychologist who was in private practice for 35+ years, I have provided marriage counseling to hundreds of couples. I have also treated a number of “impaired” mental health professionals for this type of issue. I was appointed by the Governor of Illinois to serve on the first Sex Offender Evaluation and Treatment Provider Licensing and Disciplinary Board whose function is to establish standards for training and conduct, review license applications and investigate and discipline cases of professional misconduct. The issue in the case is one of the most common amongst disciplinary cases and malpractice lawsuits against mental health professionals.
For 25 years, I served as the managing partner of the largest, private, outpatient mental health practice in Winnebago County. During my tenure, our practice had two such cases involving boundary violations of a sexual nature between a therapist and client which necessitated interventions. During my post doctoral fellowship of evaluating and treating sex offenders, transference issues were discussed in length, especially vis a vis client-patient violations.
Throughout my practice I also, often, served as an expert mental health witness in a wide variety of civil and criminal cases. I have testified in depositions and in front of judges and juries well over 100 times.
In addition to being a Certified School Psychologist and a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with a subspecialty in children and ADHD, I taught child developmental psychology to medical students and residents. For 8+ years as a school psychologist I evaluated and treated scores of children with ADHD and related issues. In my 35+ years in private practice, I probably saw 2000+ children with ADHD. In the course of my practice, I have done considerable forensic work including completing a few hundred child custody evaluations, many involving similar issues to this case.
