Relevant Experiences

I have been in the practice of radiation oncology at a prestigious university since 1976. I am currently a professor and hold the Henry S. Kaplan-Harry Lebeson Chair in Cancer Biology. I served as Chair of the department of Radiation Oncology for 19 years, stepping down 3 years ago. My clinical focus is the management of lymphoma, including staging, treatment, follow-up, and management of late effects and complications. At the national level, I serve on the NCCN Guidelines Panel for Non-Hodgkin lymphoma and I chair the Panel for Hodgkin Lymphoma.

If this is a case of possible lung or heart injury secondary to treatment for lymphoma, I may be an appropriate reviewer, but if is secondary to treatment for lung cancer or mesothelioma, then I may not be the best person.  Many of these patients have involvement of intra-thoracic lymph nodes, which requires chest irradiation. I have treated ~100 patients/year with radiation to the chest.  I have experience with radiation-related complications in the heart and lungs among the patients I have treated. Radiation-related complications are a major focus of my research and I have authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed papers and book chapters that address these complications.
