Expertise DescriptionI have more than 35 years experience in the field of Environmental Health and Safety. My expertise includes industrial hygiene, risk management, safety engineering, confined space and environmental program management. I have additional expertise in chemical exposure assessment, indoor air quality testing, incident investigation, and Cal / OSHA inspections, including “red-tagging.” I have over 10 years expert witness experience with consultations, deposition, and courtroom testimony.
Areas of Expertise
My consulting services include: Lectures at University level in topics of processing, H&S hazards / controls; Safety services such as compliance audits, safety inspections, management system audits, fall protection, safety training, confined space entry & rescue, electrical / hazardous energy control, injury and illness prevention, material handling, emergency response teams, and more; Implementation of comprehensive programs and policies for a semiconductor IC manufacturer.
I do consider myself a product liability expert. I have worked on product liability issues with AMD and Apple for their products. I also have worked on product warning labels for my consulting clients, such as SunPower.
I have done numerous civil law cases regarding product safety involving injury to a consumer due to exposure to commercially available products at work or home, representing either the defense or plaintiff. I have also had a number of injury investigations regarding chemical exposures due to airborne contaminants or dermal exposure to hazardous materials. I performed several similar worker injury investigations during my work with FedOSHA and Cal/OSHA. Several of the cases have specifically involved highly hazardous products (acid, bases, volatile toxic emissions, heavy metals metals/Proposition 65) involving failure to warn and/or labeling issues. I worked as an Industrial Hygiene Manager/volatile emissions testing expert for Apple Computer regarding volatile chemical plastic / plasticizers from their plastic computer case and printed circuit board (PCB) component emissions during burn-in. Various product emission testing labs were used for quantifying emission levels and comparison to international electronic product standards.
I have not specifically testified in a case involving an oil change/auto center accident and hazards in an auto repair shop to customers in the work area. I’m an expert in industrial safety, and understand the concept of “standard of care” business owners have for their business operations and facilities.
I have done numerous civil law cases regarding retail safety and personal injury to a customer while shopping in the Northern California area (Santa Rosa, CA – Shoe Mart; Vallejo, CA – Smart & Final; Redding, CA – Barnes & Noble) representing both the defense and plaintiff. I have also had a number of industrial injury investigations regarding materials storage, racks, and appropriate anchoring. I performed several similar worker injury investigations during my work with FedOSHA and Cal/OSHA.
I have extensive regulatory agency compliance experience (Cal/OSHA and FedOSHA), private industry (with AMI, AMD and Apple Computer), and then as a consultant/expert witness for the last 25 years in a wide breadth of industrial establishments. I have done extensive expert witness deposition and testimony in administrative hearings, Superior Court (state level) and Federal District Court (federal level).
