Areas of Expertise
• Licensed in Ohio as a superintendent and principal
• Doctorate in Educational Administration
• Educational Specialist Degree
• National expert on school safety, violence prevention, and crisis management
• Member of the Association of Threat Assessment Professionals
I am currently an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at a University as well as Director of the Educational Leadership program. I am also the Director of Programs for the Educator's School Safety Network, a national non-profit that provides safety training, consultation, and resources to educators. We work with urban, suburban, and rural K-12 districts and high education institutions throughout the United States and Canada. Effective procedures and training would have resulted in an appropriate standard of care, prevented this tragedy, and protected the vulnerable student. While the situation in the case clearly has implications for board policy and procedures, the "breakdown" and subsequent damages most likely occurred at the building level with the staff and administration there.
