Expertise Description

I have more than 30 years of experience in the field of Chemistry. My recent research areas include small molecule to perturb protein-protein interactions, small molecule for targeting cancer cells, and asymmetric hydrogenations of substrates without classical coordinating groups. My prior research has included through-bond energy transfer fluorescent dyes for multiplexing, BODIPY dye chemistry, combinatorial methods for catalyst discovery and optimization, delivery of proteins into cells, small molecule ligands for the Trk receptors (one compound in clinical trials), solid phase syntheses, dyes for DNA sequencing; as well as, DNA sequencing by synthesis, manganese catalyzed epoxidations using hydrogen peroxide, syntheses and applications of cyclopropene amino acids, catalyzed hydroborations, biocatalytic syntheses of useful chirons, and syntheses and reactions of chiral sulfoxides. I have over 10 years of expert witness experience with consultation, deposition, and courtroom testimony.

I am an expert in peptide syntheses (solution and solid phase) and on their properties, particularly with respect to medicinal chemistry. In my research, I focus on examining preferred conformations of peptides and peptidomimetics, with a view to using them to mimic or disrupt protein-protein interactions. I have many papers that relate to peptides, I am editor of a book on solid phase syntheses, and I have 25 years of experience in the area.
