Expertise DescriptionI have over 45 years experience in aquatics facility operations, water recreation and safety, boating accidents, beach accidents, and related issues. I have more than 20 years expert witness experience with consultations, deposition, and courtroom testimony.
Areas of Expertise
My expert witness experience includes: Drowning in any body of water (pools, beaches, etc.), Boating accident reconstruction, Jones Act, hypothermia, Alcohol and aquatics, and Life jackets.
My consulting services include: Swim pool safety, Life-guarding, Commercial/recreational boating safety, Hypothermia/cold water, and near-drowning protection.
My professional experience includes: Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) and Risk Evaluator.
For 20+ years I traveled North America demonstrating life jackets on thousands of people who were actually wearing them in various still and moving water situations, then wrote a book including these experiences and testified in court cases regarding them.
I’ve had numerous cases involving hotel/motel pools where lighting and other safety factors were involved. I’ve been an expert in aquatics for 36 years with hundreds of aquatically related litigations. A few cases have involved efforts of opposing lawyers to disqualify parts of my testimony. These are usually denied on appeal.
I trained thousands of fire/police and EMS responders throughout North America in dam hazards and rescues, writing about them in my text as well as participating in training videos at dam sites for the Fire and Emergency/Law Enforcement Television Networks. Additionally I worked on a boating case.
